Senior Judge George E. James

Appointed by former Governor Tom Ridge to the bench in 1998 to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Thomas C. Mannix, Judge George E. James was elected in November, 1999.

Following his graduation from Beaver Falls High School in 1955, Judge James continued his education at Westminster College and Dickinson School of Law, obtaining his undergraduate degree in 1959 and his law degree in 1962.

During his nearly 36 years as a lawyer, Judge James was a sole practitioner in Beaver Falls. During those years, in addition to his private practice, Judge James worked as an Assistant District Attorney and Assistant County Solicitor. He was also solicitor for a number of row offices. As a hearing examiner for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board for 27 years, Judge James heard evidence and made recommendations to the board in cases involving license applications, license citations and nuisance bars.

Having reached the mandatory retirement age in 2007, Judge James became a Senior Judge in January, 2008.
